All that was left...

I mowed the grass behind the barn this morning.  Seeing something unusually white in the cuttings, I slowed the mower and discovered what was left of the Quacker.  (There are pictures behind the "read more".  I don't think they are gruesome, but if you are sensitive, you might want to skip this one.  --JH)

His skeleton was clean.  This is what I first saw.

I wasn't certain if it was a duck or a hen.  The two that disappeared after I last mowed the grass were one of each.  Then I looked more closely...

...and recognized his bill.  I lifted the skeleton a bit above the grass to see it in full.

The predator (or anything that came after) seems to have cleaned the skeleton of anything edible.  That made me feel a bit better.  If you're going to steal my birds, please make their last gift a longer life for someone else.

Well, I'm pleased that you found Ari Duckass's remains Johanna, and as you say at least the predator/s made full use of his 'gift', certainly a bitter sweet post.
Hope you are feeling okay after all the trauma of the last month or so.
Sending best wishes cross the miles,
Rose H

I know exactly how you feel about just killing and leaving. I had ducks for many years and every once in a while one would go missing and later I'd find the body. Why kill and not eat??? It really got to me. I thought only people were like that. I'm glad that it turned out differently for you. This is how it's supposed to be. It was Ari's time to move on.

Poor Ari. At least you know where he is now.

I don't think this is Ari, I think it's the Wacky Quacker who went later. I mowed the grass between when Ari was taken and when the male duck was taken, and I didn't see this then. So I think it's the boy. Still sad.
